This Neotropical family of medium to large, chicken-like birds, sometimes known collectively as cracids, is the most arboreal of the pheasants and related birds.
A small Old World family of terrestrial birds, the guineafowl are most closely related to pheasants. They are endemic to sub-Saharan Africa, but one species, Helmeted Guineafowl has been domesticated and introduced around the world.
This large family includes grouse, turkeys, capercailzies, partridges, quail, pheasants, junglefowl and peafowl. The Junglefowl are the ancestors of all domestic chickens.
