Hu Xian Farmer's Painting Village

In the 1950s farmers in this village began to paint.  At first they didn't even have proper paint.  They used soot, lime and dirt to make their colors.  Mao chose their work to showcase China to the world.

Several years ago the government helped the farmers to build a new model village near their old homes.  Our visit coincided with their annual festival.  We spent the night with different families, sharing food and fun.
