	Three Gorges Dam When it is completed in 2009 this will be the world's largest dam. In addition to flooding spectacular historical and scenic areas to a depth of 325 feet, the dam has displaced 1.4 million people. Benefits include flood control, hydroelectric power and the opening of the upper Yangtze to shipping.
