Lying at the eastern foot of Arenal Volcano is the tiny farming community of La Fortuna.  Arenal is one of the world's most active volcanoes.  In 1968, the volcano, which had lain dormant for hundreds of years erupted.  Since then frequent powerful explosions send cascades of lave down the volcano's steep slope.  We found low lying clouds obscured the mountain except for occasional tantalizing peeks.
