In mythology Naxos is linked to the wedding of Dionysus and Ariadne, a union that blessed the island with fine wines and delicious food..

Due to its fertile valleys, Naxos has the richest variety of produce of the Cyclades. It is especially famous in Greece for its potatoes.

     
Octopi Fish Goat Naxos Cheese --
The local cheese is made from sheep and goats' milk.
Open Wine --
Dionysos was eternally young from drinking wine and after marrying him, Ariadne soon forgot her sorrows.  Ever since then, Naxian wine has been considered an efficient remedy--even when bottled in used 1.5 liter water bottles.
Raki --
Raki is a brandy made from grape stems and seeds.  Locals drink it in the winter served hot with honey.

Takes me back to our years in Turkey where Adana Kabobs were famous.
Buttery Potatoes --
Who knew that Naxos was famous for producing wonderful buttery potatoes?  Yum--buttery!

Kitron is made from the leaves and stems of a fruit that looks like a large, pale lemon.
Chalki Olive Tree Chalki Greek Salad --
Each taverna has its own version of this delicious dish.
