Chalki (Halki on some maps) is the main island village.  It is a center for crafts and the production of kitron, the local citrus liqueur. The old section of the village has some Venetian and neoclassical houses as well as a fine taverna under a tree.
Windmill ruins dot the island. This very small traverna is one of several in the town. Welcoming, and not so welcoming doorways
Jo chats with a local seamstress.  Chalki is rich in fabric arts. Supports identify the site of a vanished balcony over the marble road. Bird song rings out. We shared lunch with some persistent bees under the wisteria.
