Tuol Sleng Museum and Killing Fields, Phnom Penh

Over 1.5 million people were slaughtered under Pol Pot's regime.  Tuol Sleng is a former high school transformed into an interrogation center.  An estimated 20,000 inmates passed through here to be tortured and killed.

Many of the victims were buried at the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek, 15 km southwest of Phnom Penh.  A pagoda now houses a moving memorial of a mountain of skulls.  The grounds are quiet and peaceful at last.
