| Soon after you drive north from Beijing you start to see sections of the Great Wall of China. We passed these by to climb the Badaling Wild Great Wall. While most tourists were herded up the steps in large groups we got to wander the quiet countryside.

The section of the Wall we explored once protected an important pass. The defenses did not hold. Tribes from north of the Wall broke through and overthrew the Chinese dynasty. |
